|CHICAGO http://www.starsauthority.com/authentic-mike-modano-stars-jersey/ , May 28 (Xinhua) -- Over 21,000 cyclists flocked to Chicago's iconic Lake Shore Drive on Sunday for the 16th annual MB Bike the Drive, the only event in which the city closes down one of the most trafficked streets for thirty miles of safe, family-friendly biking.
The event also includes a free festival in Butler Field with live music, food, and fun.
The event punctuates the recent distinction of Chicago as the nation's number one bike-friendly city by Bicycling Magazine, a significant improvement from tenth place in 2010. Chicago has over one hundred miles of buffered and protected bike lanes and the second largest bike share program in the United States.
"In Chicago you get around so easily. We could just drop these bikes off in whatever spot, go into a store, and do whatever we need to do. It's amazing! I don't have this in Kansas City, so I think it' s cool. You can see so much of the city in a short amount of time," Laura Vanderwei told Xinhua.
MB Bike the Drive is the largest fundraiser supporting Chicago's Active Transportation Alliance. The Active Trans organization works with the City of Chicago to develop projects related to biking. Supported by 7,000 members and 1,000 volunteers, the organization works to build a movement around active transportation, encouraging physical activity, increasing safety, and building a world class transportation network.
"It's good to get people out and active and to see a different perspective of the city. We hadn't gotten our bikes out yet, this was the first nice day to do it," said local bike rider Charles Smunt. He and his wife plan to return to the event next year.
"On our next ride we're hoping to go further, see more scenery," Roshanda Smunt told Xinhua.
With most riders starting between 5:30 am and 7:00 am., roads begin opening up around 11 a.m., allowing Memorial Day Weekend visitors and traffic to return flowing normally. MB Bike the Drive will return next year to kick off another Summer in Chicago.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Botafogo on Friday denied reports of a move to sign former Uruguay international striker Loco Abreu.
The 38-year-old had triggered speculation of a return to his former team when he met with Botafogo officials in Montevideo last week.
"There is no plan for Loco Abreu to return," the Rio de Janeiro club's football manager Antonio Lopes told reporters on Friday. "His name hasn't been mentioned in our discussions."
Abreu represented Botafogo from 2010 to 2012 and became a favorite among fans after leading the club to the Rio de Janeiro state title in his first season.
He is a free agent after ending his contract with Argentina's Rosario Central earlier this month.
Botafogo will play in Brazil's Serie B this year after finishing second-last in the top division in 2014.
The two-time Serie A champions last month replaced coach Vagner Mancini with Rene Simoes, who guided Jamaica to their first World Cup in 1998.
It will come as no surprise to most parents that the two most stressful things when travelling with a young family are keeping the children content and packing all their stuff, according to new research.
Holiday company Tots to Travel surveyed 350 parents of whom 36.5% ranked 'keeping children happy and well behaved on the journey to a holiday destination' as the most stressful part of a holiday with children under five. 'Packing all the stuff needed' was named as the second most stressful part of a family trip by 28.2% of parents.
Happily a little bit of forward thinking can help relieve this stress, whether your children are six months or 16 years old. Consider your destination, accommodation and means of travel carefully - make sure they're appropriate for the whole family. Use websites such as Take the Family, Tots to Travel, Baby Friendly Boltholes, Baby Goes 2 and the travel pages of the Times to research all your options.
Once you've decided where you're going and how you're getting there create a checklist of everything you will need to do and take with you - use the Holiday Extras holiday checklist online. Keep adding items as you think of them. Remember things like checking passport expiry dates, visas and medical documentation for all the family well ahead of departure.
A pre-booked meet and greet airport parking service is ideal for reducing family travel stress. A driver will meet you, your family and all your gear at the terminal and park your car while you get everyone inside and checked in. There's very little time for boredom and frustration to set in!
According to research carried out this year by travel company Holiday Extras, unnecessary stress blights early morning and late flights for 45% of fliers, arriving late or missing a flight is the top cause of anxiety for 37% of airport travellers and early morning or late night flights are the UK's number one hate - airport processes is number two.
If you're flying early in the morning then booking an airport hotel the night before the flight will give everyone the chance to relax and start the holiday early. Airport hotels will provide cots and family rooms on request. Day rooms are also available where you can unwind before the next leg of your trip if you have a long journey to or from the airport. All good for escaping confined spaces and sibling s.
